FNB Mozambique Provides 7 Million Meticais to Support Flood Victims

FNB Mozambique has allocated 7 million meticais to support humanitarian aid for communities affected by the floods that occurred earlier this year. The aid will be channeled through Pro Visão Mozambique, a social intervention organization, to benefit affected populations in the provinces of Gaza, Tete, and Sofala.

The floods affected more than 800,000 people, causing loss of life, destruction of homes, and damage to essential infrastructure such as roads, bridges, health facilities, and water supply systems. Although the most critical phase of the emergency has already passed, many communities continue to face the consequences of the tragedy and are still recovering from their losses.

In addition to rebuilding homes and replacing essential goods, affected populations are struggling to restore their livelihoods. The destruction of farmland and the loss of livestock have exacerbated the situation, reducing access to food, especially in the hardest-hit areas, such as Xai-Xai and neighboring districts.

As part of its partnership with Pro Visão Moçambique, FNB Moçambique’s support includes food assistance, water supply, sanitation and hygiene services, as well as the provision of bean and rice seeds to help resume agricultural production. The resources will be allocated to displaced communities and those in the most vulnerable situations in the provinces covered by the initiative.

“At FNB Mozambique, we stand in solidarity with all those affected by this tragedy. In our immediate response to the floods, we supported our employees who were directly affected. Today, we are extending that commitment to the most vulnerable communities, contributing to their recovery and the rebuilding of their livelihoods,” said FNB Mozambique’s CEO, Dennis Mbingo, as quoted in the press release.

“This support, made possible in part by contributions from group entities in the region, reflects the strength of our regional network and our shared commitment to respond in times of crisis. By working in partnership with Pro Visão, we ensure that assistance reaches those who need it most, efficiently and with significant impact,” added Dennis Mbingo.

FNB Mozambique also noted that the country remains vulnerable to the effects of climate change, with recurring floods and cyclones putting pressure on communities and essential services. In this context, the bank reaffirms its commitment to supporting national recovery efforts and contributing to strengthening the long-term resilience of communities.

“FNB Mozambique recognizes the enormous challenges posed by extreme weather events and the importance of the private sector playing an active role in strengthening the resilience of communities and the country,” said Dennis Mbingo. “We are proud to be part of this joint effort to provide essential support and protection to the people and communities who need it most.”
